Me + a Bloody Mary + French Toast = Happy

via flickr

On Sunday, we had brunch at Frankie’s Sputino. It was fabulous. While waiting for the rest of our friends to arrive, we settled in with a coffee (a really good americano, but this is beside the point) and a delicious citrus drink. We watched the bartender pull out fresh mint, muddle it with sugar, add ice, then place the glass under a juicer & squeeze half each of a lemon & lime into the glass. This was topped with vodka, a mysterious syrup, and fizzy water. It was delicious, and made me really really excited about the food.

When we sat down, I ordered a bloody mary, which was perfectly tomato-y & horseradishy. Then we got some nice bread and olive oil. At this point, I got worried, because I realized this nice Italian bread would also be serving as my french toast bread. I personally dislike too much crust taste in my french toast, & since this bread was particularly crusty,  I was worried. This worry was a big waste of time, since the french toast was perfectly lovely & done just right. The bread was somehow soaked long enough to permeate the crust, but not so much that the fluffy whites turned to a soggy custard in a crust ramekin. I can’t wait to go back for dinner, and brunch again.

Barmarche

Barmarche

This past Saturday, I had dinner at Barmarche , and while not my first time eating there, I definitely enjoyed it. Unfortunately, it was a bit loud & our server had a mullet; but the food was great.

The cocktails were also standout, especially The Matador, which was like a delicious fancy strawberry daiquiri, but with gin not rum. Oh, and it had serrano peppers, which really made it amazingly spicy & extra delicious!

We had spicy guacamole with chips to tide us over til our second appetizer came out. We had dates stuffed with almonds & blue cheese the were wrapped in bacon. Yummy, and easy to recreate at home, for those who were wondering! I had, for the third time, the crispy bass tacos. I am unable to order anything else there, because they are so frickin’ delicious.

I’ll be there again, though not when I need to hear my companions!
